Wisdom babies (teeth)

Smalam baru pergi consult Dr. Vasanthan regarding my braces appliances. Berikut antara dialog suam2 kuku menariknya :

Dra : May I ask doc, is it possible to get my braces removed within this year?

Dr. V : Good question. (smile) U see. we ad accomplish our mission. ur roots have been corrected by wearing the appliance last year. but, still u have to wear those appliances. this may prevent any relapses from the correction u had. so, another 6 months-1year, before removal of the braces.

Perasaan : down.dah 4 taun pakai. masih belum boleh bukak. pass-rah!

Dra : senyum pahit2 kopi cap kapal api.

Dr. V : So, why are u still keeping ur third molars (wisdom teeth). u have extracted 2 of them before right?

Dra : Sir, i dont feel like removing it right now.

Teetttt! wrong answer.

Maka bermulalah lecture di luar kelas by Dr. V. subject : Wisdom teeth.

Ok. from apa yg aku dpt dari lecture tersebut. mari belajar.

• Pekebenda wisdom teeth tu?

They are ur 3rd molars. sila perhatikan dentition masing. anda sudah ada 2 gigi geraham in each side on ur rahang. they are ur 1st and 2nd molar. wisdom babies ni terletak (atau akan terletak bagi yg belum erupt) die bahagian paling belakang gusi anda.
They are the last teeth to come in and, the omes least needed for good oral health.
In most cases they may do more harm than good.

• Nape wisdom teeth dok smunyik? dia kluar lambat ea?

Eruption date : 17-25 yrs
When a wisdom tooth does not hv enough space to erupt, it gets trapped in the bone.

• We cant see them if they are still in the gum. so how will we know their condition?

Most ppl hv 4 wisdom teeth, one in each corner of the mouth, but each tooth can be at diff stage of eruption n position of impaction (trapped).
Ini kes sy (memandgkan lecture bdsrkan kes sndiri) :

See, according to the above image, the tooth is directing towards the adjacent teeth. the wisdom teeeth will apply pressure due to physiological process of eruption. imagine, the pressure is applied from time to time to the adjacent teeth. wt will happen to the adj teeth? the part where the pressure being applied will get resorped. resorption tu adalah proses di mana struktur gigi tu lessen up/berkurang. so apa jadi? gigi sebelah akan kehilangn struktur asal, leading to crowding. kedudukan gigi akn terhimpt antara satu sama lain. as a result, malocclusion occur. meksudnye, gigitan sudah tidak normal. aiseh. susah juga nak terangkn. hrp2 sape yg bace (kalau ade org bace :P) paham. xpaham jgn malu tanye nnti sesat jalan. ;)

• So apa mau buat?

Bagi kes yg belum tumbuh wisdom babies nye, sy sarankan jumpa nearest dentist. mungkin the dentist akan suruh anda ambil xray OPG. dpt lah tgk giginya terletak bagaimana. jikalau normal, maka gigi akan dibiarkn tumbuh.

Jika tak normal(spt gamba kat ats td & byk lagi kes2 lain)..jeng3. kene wat extraction lah.

Yg pernah sy wat aritu, minor surgery. dentist akn potong gusi, dan bwk keluar gigi tu. ngeri, tp x sakit. sakit mase nak suntik anaesthetic je. recover dlm seminggu, w/o pain if u take the prescribed medication. tade hal la. mmg ade swelling, xleh makn sgt. but lepas smggu smua mcm bese balik.

Yeah. rasenye cukop lah apa yg dikarangkan bdasrkan pengalaman saya yg sedikit. belajar yg betul2, belum lagi. nanti akn belajar lebih mndalam bila sy masuk dept of oral surgery.
